Why This Series Exists

Between growing up in theater and choir, earning two degrees in vocal performance, and teaching at the collegiate level, I have seen how essential professional development is. It is also the biggest gap I find in young performers, through no fault of their own.

The truth is that most singers don't encounter audition training, vocal health, or serious artistic development until upper-level college, and sometimes not until graduate school.

My hope is to give young students the chance to build those skills long before they walk into their first college or professional audition.

Walk In Ready: The Audition Workshop

The audition is its own skill, one that rarely gets an hour to itself in a busy school year. Students learn how to choose their material, walk into the room with confidence, and leave a lasting impression, and interested students can volunteer for a mock audition and receive personal feedback in real time.

Sing Smart: A Vocal Health Seminar

Presented in partnership with the University of Miami

Young performers spend years using their voices before anyone teaches them how the instrument works. Voice specialists from the University of Miami give students a clinician's look at vocal anatomy, how to warm up and cool down, and the everyday habits that keep a young voice healthy for a lifetime of singing. The evening closes with an open Q&A.
